Back to School

We were busy all summer long creating garments for our biggest show of the year, the Yellow Daisy. It was an experience to say the least. We loved the people and dinners with the Havens. We introduced some new items at this show: Ice Cream Blouse, Ice Cream Dress, Tea Party Sundress, and the Playsuit. Some patterns we have used before and some are new. Oliver & S puts new patterns out each fall and winter so you can imagine the fun we have dreaming up new pattern/fabric choices. Here are a few photos from our photo shoot with Maegan. We used many of them for advertising at our show. The girls loved seeing their faces in big banners. They were celebs!

Kirsten (the "k" in a.j. jacks) loves all of her clothes made especially for her from Gramma. She loves the attention she gets when she is wearing them and will tell anyone who asks that her Gramma made them for her. Now, whenever she gets something new she will ask who made if for her. Or, if it is a gift from someone, she automatically assumes they have made it too. Playdate and Ties

Last week we had a fabulous time in Florida! The kids got so much attention and had tons of fun with thier cousins. These are the dresses the girls wore for Easter and the ties the boys wore. They looked so cute and received many compliments. I love the colors and with those shoes, who could resist?

It's a Give-A-Way

Well, it's that time again.....give-a-way time!! Don't we all love the give-a-ways? In honor of our new website launch we are hosting a fun give-a-way at ajjacks.com. We had originally wanted to give-a-way a pair of salt water sandals to the first customer on our website....but, we had buyers before the "launch". So, we decided to give the first buyer a pair of these great sandals and then to continue on with our give-a-way.

Cricut

I've been researching cutting machines since our November show in VA. We had a swag there for decoration and more people asked us to buy it than any other article we were selling. So, we came to the conclusion that a swag was something we needed to sell in the future. But in order to make a swag we needed a cutting machine that would cut fabric. And that is what started our search. Which has now ended with the Cricut Expression.

I have yet to purchase the needed blade for cutting fabric but I am so far very impressed with all of it's many features. I have tried to cut fabric and it has worked on smaller projects. Those with more detail were not as crisp. Paper projects have been a breeze with the machine.

I started using it this weekend at a scrap mania. Savanna's birthday is coming soon and homemade invites are a must. I chose the Songbird cartridge for this event and Courtney helped me with starting details. I will post more as our details progress....like favors!!

All in all, this machine has been fun so far. Tackling the cutting fabric aspect might prove to be more difficult but I will give details for that as well.

VA Christmas Market 09

A.J.JACKS had our first show this past weekend in Virgina. It was amazing. The three of us had such a great time and people loved our clothes. We are excited about the future for our little company and cannot wait to all be together again for another show. We are planning for this spring and summer. NYC Anyone?

So, we are a week away from our big show in Virginia! We have worked very hard for this show and I can hardly sleep thinking about it. That is until I read O + S and now I want to head to NYC on the 14th of next month for "Modern Women of Sewing". It looks F-A-B-U-L-O-U-S. Anyone want to come? ajjacks is now working on our very own website. We are excited about this for MANY reasons. Sorry for the lack of posts over the last few months. It isn't because we haven't been working. We have indeed. That is one reason for the lack of posts. Too much work. We are currently building up inventory for our first craft fair in Virginia Beach, VA this November. This is my favorite shirt so far. It was the most pain stacking to make but well worth all the pain. I tore the shirt apart 3/4 into it when I thought I misplaced the darts. No, the darts were NOT misplaced so I had to reconstruct and figure where I went wrong after that. I LOVE the back. The red buttons give your on-lookers a little treat as you walk away. Perfect with a pair of red shoes. Don't you think?

And the collar is perfect!! Can you imagine it with a vest? Oh I can't wait to finish one for Celia to match. I think I may have forgotten how much went into this one. I think the next one will be alot smoother.

Easter Dress

Every girl should have a bow on her birthday.........why not on her dress? In this case it was Easter, but hey, it worked so well for them.

The inside hem of the skirt matched the bow. It gave it a special touch in case the wind blew it up a bit.

These were not the dresses I had planned for Easter Sunday. I was actually on time this year and had the girls Easter outfits all ready well in advance....that is until I made MEA's Easter dress Thursday (yes, the night before Good Friday) and fell in love with it. I thought, "Sure I can make two more for the girls before Sunday morning." So Friday night and Saturday night I was up 'til 2 am constructing these. And I love them! And the girls enjoyed them too. MEA is out of town this week so I can't photo her with the girls. I will get the three of them when she gets back and post. Her dress is in a different print but all three from the same line of fabric. I also cut out pieces for 6 other dresses in the same fabric. Which means that I will be adding them to our Etsy site soon. They make a FABULOUS "Birthday Party Dress".

Fun Skirts!

My girls LOVE skirts! Year after year I have bought them skirts from Gymboree BUT this year I started making them fun skirts. This is the first of many (I hope). I prefer for them to wear biker shorts of some sort underneath so that when they are getting silly their panties aren't exposed. That will be a sewing mission for another day (the biker shorts). So, since I do not know how to make a skort I am thinking about adding muslin to this skirt as a second (inside) layer. What do you think?
This fabric is so cute. Perfect for the project that needs some color without too much going on.

I am not sure what the girls were doing in this one. They make up poses when I am taking photos. Who knows?

Easter!! The chance to celebrate the ressurection of Christ and to teach my children of how he formed in me a new creation in Christ. Spring offers such a wonderous array of symbolism of the new life that I have in Christ just as the baby birds and the budding flowers begin their new life I am reminded afresh of my new life that I have in Christ.

I love the smell of spring, the birds chirping, the flowers and green grass, and most of all the warm sun on my face! I love long walks in the evenings and getting back on our bikes for the first time! Can you tell I really can't wait!? It's still cold up here!!!!!!
